Webinar: Medicinal Cannabis for Endometriosis Pain

July 1 @ 19:00 - 19:45

A free webinar hosted by the New Zealand Medical Cannabis Council and Endo Warriors Aotearoa, featuring Dr Claire Henry of the University of Otago, Wellington.

Endometriosis affects an estimated one in nine people assigned female at birth, and current treatment options do not work for everyone. Pain management, hormonal medication, and laparoscopic surgery can carry side effects, and patient satisfaction is often limited.

In this session, Dr Claire Henry presents findings from the first prospective cohort study of medicinal cannabis for endometriosis-related pain in New Zealand. The study followed 28 people with endometriosis and related pelvic pain who were prescribed CBD oil, alone or with dried cannabis flower, over three months. Across the group, average pelvic pain fell from 5.4 to 3.7, and worst pain fell from 7.6 to 5.3, alongside clinically meaningful improvements in health-related quality of life. Participants also reported better sleep and reduced anxiety, with few side effects.

Dr Henry is a researcher in the Department of Surgery and Critical Care at the University of Otago, Wellington, with a focus on endometriosis, endometrial cancer, and access to care for gynaecological conditions. She will walk through the study design, the results, what they suggest for prescribing, and the questions that still need larger trials to answer.

This webinar is intended for doctors, prescribers, and anyone wanting to learn more about the evidence behind medicinal cannabis for endometriosis and pelvic pain.
